thxbby is an indie-electronic trio weaving emotion, texture, and rhythm into immersive sonic landscapes. Formed by vocalist and lyricist Lauren Gerrish, multi-instrumentalist Michael Blouin, and producer/ multi-instrumentalist Cole Boillat (also known as BOIA), thxbby blends raw, organic instrumentation with modern electronic production to craft a sound that's both intimate and cinematic. Their music pulses with dreamy energy - equal parts heart and hardware.
lauren
Lauren— singer, songwriter, actor, and model— has been telling the stories of others her entire career. She has written music for artists, DJs, commercials and films and has been featured as an actor / model in countless commercial, theatrical, and print productions. Now she’s using her lyrical prowess to tell her and her bandmates own stories.
Lauren embarked on a cross-country journey from Boston to Los Angeles at age 21 by hitching a ride with a friend joining the navy in San Diego. She had no car, no job, no place to live and a few hundred dollars in a bank account. Through sheer grit and determination, Lauren built her career in the entertainment industry from the ground up. Her natural talent for melody and cadence coupled with a love of prose and the English language create a dynamic songwriting style that is undeniably hers.
Cole
Cole didn’t plan on becoming a producer. A trained musician in classical and jazz piano, voice, and many elements of percussion including jazz drum set, he thrived in many musical settings from solo to orchestral performance, a cappella, and even theater (both in the band and on stage). Still, in college he studied Neuroscience and Music composition, arranging, composing, writing, and producing all the while, but planning on medical school.
Everything changed when he decided to spend his gap year pursuing music instead of research. In mid-2018 Cole moved to Los Angeles and began to produce for artists other than himself under the moniker BOIA. His strikingly original production is hard to define - it’s always accessible, always interesting, and never generic.
Michael
Michael Blouin is a Chicago-born multi-instrumentalist with a genre-hopping love for everything from jazz to punk to ‘90s hip hop. Influenced by artists like Bon Iver, Sticky Fingers, and The Beatles, his playing blends emotional depth with a gritty, experimental edge.
After a stint in the music department at WME and marketing festivals, broadway tours, and concert series at IAE, Michael, a lifelong musician, realized he was meant to be the one creating his own music, not marketing someone else’s.
Post-COVID, Michael returned to LA, where a chance musical connection with Lauren sparked the beginnings of a new project. One jam session led to another, they met Cole, and thxbby was formed. The rest is a noise-filled, harmony-soaked history.
